FAQ

## Questions people ask.

More in the [guide](https://cc-moss.larrykoo.com/guide/).

### What is cc-moss?

cc-moss is an open-source session manager for Claude Code. It remembers each session’s name and folder, and whether it’s busy, waiting for you or stopped. After a restart or a crashed terminal, one command or one click brings every interrupted session back to the same conversation. It runs on macOS and Linux, with a menu bar app on macOS.

### How do I get my sessions back after a restart?

Click Bring them back in the menu bar panel, or run `cc-moss restore` in a terminal. cc-moss reopens each session in its own folder with `claude --resume`, one tmux session each, so you continue the same conversation with the same launch flags.

### How is it different from claude --resume or tmux-resurrect?

`claude --resume` brings back one conversation at a time, and you have to remember which. tmux-resurrect restores panes and shells, not Claude conversations. cc-moss knows where each session was and brings back every interrupted one at once. They work together, too: cc-moss runs inside tmux.

### Does cc-moss send my conversations anywhere?

No. cc-moss keeps a small database on your machine: each session’s id, name and folder, and the first 200 characters of your latest prompt. It goes online in one place: a version check, at most once a day, that carries nothing about you, and you can turn it off.

### What do I need to run it?

macOS or Linux, with Claude Code and tmux. The menu bar app needs macOS 14 or later. Install with Homebrew (`brew install larrykoo711/tap/cc-moss`) or download a prebuilt binary, then run `cc-moss install` to connect it to Claude Code.

### Is it free?

Yes. cc-moss is free and open source under the MIT license; the code, the design notes and every decision are on GitHub.
